Gaffney off to Play in Turkey

Just heard from Tony's family that TGaff is off to Turkey to play some ball for Turkish Telekom. It's been a whirlwind for the former UMass star. Following college there have been several NBA workouts for various teams (see below), intense workouts down at IMG Academy (in Florida), signs with the Lakers, plays in Israel,  breaks his ankle, back to the states, plenty of rehab, more workouts, signed by the Celtics and now flying once again overseas with a nice contract in hand. Its hard not to like this guy! The journey continues from the MAN from Berkley. Even the Celtic girls are still cheering for him!!

Celtics Release Tony Gaffney

The Boston Celtics released Tony Gaffney yesterday. It simply came down to a numbers game for Gaffney as the Celtics signed Von Wafer to a one-year contract and resigned Marquis Daniels (along with the two O'Neals) the last few spots became that much tougher for Tony to crack.

comments from Doc: “He plays extremely hard. He’s one of those guys who you would love to figure out a way to keep him on your team, but numbers got him.”

from Gaffney's Facebook page: "All good things must come to an end. It was a great time being w the Celtics, it ended today. I appreciate all the love n support. You guys are the best. My agent is back to the drawing board and stirring up something. So when the next move is finalized you all will know. Thanks again everyone."

Obviously, a lot of good things came from Tony playing with the C's since last Spring. There is talk of heading to LA again - we shall see - best of luck Tony...the JOURNEY CONTINUES. We're all still in your corner and still cheering for yeah!!!

Celtics Waive Lafayette

The Celtics waived Oliver Lafayette while forward Tony Gaffney continues to hold on. Tony has a lot to offer and playing the 3 (vs. a guard spot) has helped with the Celtics.

Celtics Bring in West

The Celtics acquired Delonte West who played his first three years with the Celtics and could make a good back up to Rondo. Over his career he has averaged a respectable 10 ppg and 3.7 assists per game but brings a "past" with him. West, Lafayette and Tony Gaffney will be looking to secure the 15th spot with the Celtics. Things should start to get interesting in practice and during the pre-season!

Tony looking to get his shot with the C's

“I still feel like we need another piece,” Pierce told the Boston Globe. “I think we could use another wingman off the bench after losing Tony Allen. I think he was real valuable, what he brought in the playoffs. … For the most part, I love our team. I think we’re better now than we were in June. But also I still think we need another piece if we’re going to win it all and not just get there." After being a nuisance to Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers in the NBA Finals, Allen signed on with the Memphis Grizzlies this summer. The Celtics have Tony Gaffney in the mix, and he could prove to be the piece that fills the void left by Allen’s departure. That remains to be seen." Full blog post here...

Celtics Lose a Tough one to LA

We all watched it last night. They were leading after the first 12 minutes. We figured they had them. Again, the lead at half-time and after 3. The fourth quarter was difficult. The rebounding killed them! The photo to the left is from the finals two years ago but definitely applies this time around. Hopefully the team and Doc aren't shaken up too much and the nucleus remains. Enough said...

Boston Globe Article on Tony Gaffney

Monique Walker wrote a nice story on Tony that appeared in the Globe.

LOS ANGELES — Tony Gaffney’s stint in the NBA hasn’t reached the year mark, yet he can tell stories to last a lifetime. Full Story here.

Who has the Best View in the House for Laker's Series?

That would be Mr. Gaffney. Tony is also the only player - I believe - who has spent time with both the Lakers and Celtics organizations...during the same year! Who would have ever thought it would come down to this. But what a great experience for Tony and the other rook Lafayette. Looking forward to Thursday night as I'm sure you are!

Gaffney Starts to Increase Training Intensity

After a little more than five months away from basketball, Tony Gaffney is completely recovered from a foot injury. Light workouts have begun and the intensity of those workouts are expected to increase over the next few weeks. I recently spoke to Tony and his Dad and everyone is doing well and he is excited to get back into the swing of things.

Once again, Tony is drawing a great deal of interest from NBA teams (including the Celtics and Lakers) and is considering his options in terms of who to play with this summer. He is also looking to get back with his trainer down in Florida come June. At the present time it's all about getting back in shape for the rigors of NBA life. His main goals are to improve his upper body (size) and strength, work on his jumping and to continue to focus on his nutrition. Knowing Tony's unmatched work ethic - we all know that it is only a matter of time until he is back on "his journey to the NBA." Read the latest on Tony and the Celtics here.  The Boston Herald Blog had a recent post regarding Tony's future with the Boston Celtics. Read the full Boston Herald blog post here.

Tony Gaffney Continues to Get Strong

It was great to catch up with the lovely Jessica Gaffney this week and hear that her bro Tony is recuperating and building back his strength. Sounds like he is keeping in touch with a lot of the Laker players and we wish him well with his rehab. On a side note - I was at the Lakers/Celtics game a few weeks back and witnessed a tough 90-89 loss to LA that really hurt.
